RACE - Sunday, July 6
3:30pm EASTERN
12:30pm PACIFIC

We had a good crowd on the board Saturday evening to watch the dismal crashfest that was Richmond. Assuming ½ the field can put their smashed up cars back together, we should see something better from Watkins Glen? 'Bout time for another road course event - kind of tired going in circles.

Join us again on Sunday afternoon for some beer and donuts and to watch the race.

Here's last year's stats and this weekend's schedule:

While I do think that the CC guys will make a concerted run at a top-5 and have a chance at victory, I think that some of the usual IndyCar frontrunners on streets and roadies will have a slight edge. It will be especially the case if someone gets caught out by the knockout format where the groups are split.

Yeah, I tend to agree with that. I don't think Dixon or Helio are suddenly going to fall off the planet or lay down for anybody. I'm thinking Servia might do something and I would be surprised to see Marco at the front.

Who knows? I do know that I'm glad to see some left turns!:)

Interesting (maybe not necessarily in a good way): http://www.indycar.com/news/?story_id=11892

Top 10 in practice session 1: Wheldon, Dixon, Kanaan, Castroneves, Servia, Rice, Briscoe, Meira, Power, Manning

Gap between 1st and 26th: 7.74 seconds. That should come down a bit as the weekend goes on unless of course there's rain which may be in the forecast.

LittleAlguy

Pretty cool, though. I'd rather listen to the radio guys but that ESPN took initiative to produce this is certainly a good sign from the network.

From stefmeister on Speed:

Group 1:
Tony Kannan
Helio Castroneves
Dan Wheldon
Marco Andretti
Hideki Mutoh
Buddy Rice
AJ Foyt IV
Graham Rahal
Darren Manning
Oriol Servia
Jamie Camara
Bruno Junqueira
Mario Dominguez

Group 2:
Scott Dixon
Ed Carpenter
EJ Viso
Ryan Briscoe
Danica Patrick
Vitor Meira
Justin Wilson
Will Power
Ryan Hunter-Reay
Mario Moraes
Milka Duno
Jay Howard
Enrique Bernoldi

One upset: it appears Helio is in big trouble. He is stopped on course without completing a timed lap.

LittleAlguy

Quattro spins it at the heel of the boot. Just two minutes left.

As of now: Kanaan, Junqueira, Manning, Wheldon, Andretti, Servia

LittleAlguy
07-05-2008, 11:56 AM
Apparently, Junqueira is credited with the fastest lap due to TK's time came after the yellow came out.

LittleAlguy
07-05-2008, 12:19 PM
No remarks on how the track is faster now than in Group 1 qualifying? None.

LittleAlguy
07-05-2008, 12:21 PM
Top 6 in Grp 2: Briscoe, Power, Wilson, Meira, Dixon, Hunter-Reay

LittleAlguy
07-05-2008, 12:35 PM
Power hits the tire barrier at Turn 7.

Bad move by Coyne's crew to keep Junqueira in the pits. I don't understand why one wouldn't just get a time and hope for the best.

LittleAlguy
07-05-2008, 12:45 PM
Fast 6: Wilson, Briscoe, Kanaan, Dixon, Servia, Hunter-Reay.

Missed out: Andretti, Manning, Wheldon, Manning, Junqueira, Power

LittleAlguy
07-05-2008, 12:53 PM
deleted. I should wait, lol

LittleAlguy
07-05-2008, 01:05 PM
Oh wait, that was ESPN's error. My bad. (maybe?)

Briscoe on pole. He pips Wilson by three-hundreths.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 09:54 AM
Oh man! Thanks for the updates and for getting the ball rolling.

I was out all day yesterday and away from a computer so missed everything, dangit. At least the F1 broadcast isn't on at the same time.

Tuning into the pre-race stuff and have another new video window. Weird but it's okay. Just pulled up the timing screen and see they have the regular flash one back. Cool

LittleAlguy

I like that they have Dixie's visage there. :)

Kanaan is driving with an injured wrist after a warm-up accident.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 01:24 PM
Those were final practice times I posted, btw.

ÜberDoober

Cool! Thanks for the times and grid.

Did you watch Silverstone? What a wet spin city. At least it looks like a nice day at Watkins Glen. :)

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 01:32 PM
Yes I did. That was pretty crazy.

Apparently, the series will be back to the Glen next year.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 01:45 PM
That's pretty cool what they did with the troops playing Halo 3.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 01:47 PM
Gotta love those "road course specialists".

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 01:48 PM
The engines fire and we're ready to roll. Good luck, everybody! :)

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 01:53 PM
This is where the Race Control comes in handy.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 01:55 PM
Ohhh! Wheldon out!

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 01:58 PM
Game over Wheldon.

Castroneves up to 20th.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 02:00 PM
Moraes up to 6th!!

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 02:05 PM
Somebody get Helio a screwdriver!

Tough luck. Boy is he pissed!

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 02:06 PM
Castroneves's gearbox is messed up. Game over for him.

Dixon is loving this.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 02:09 PM
Trouble for Wilson. Helio back out.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 02:09 PM
This is what you get for trusting Roth Racing.

Meira on down have made a stop. Wilson in trouble.

Castroneves gets the steering wheel changed.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 02:23 PM
Briscoe keeping the gap solid over Dixon. Just caught some audio from the TV and they said something about Marco might not making it to the finish??

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 02:27 PM
I must have missed that.

Manning and Andretti in.

Howard is out of the race.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 02:28 PM
Left rear vibration.

Top 2 in.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 02:31 PM
Damn bad break for Servia. He was doing good, like I predicted.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 02:33 PM
Hmm, Briscoe is trying to make it on 1 more stop.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 02:44 PM
Dixon is gaining ground. Nice to see long greens.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 02:45 PM
Yes, that's a refreshing change. :D

The people who pitted on the first yellow should be at a slight advantage if there are no yellows the rest of the way.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 02:52 PM
Kanaan in.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 02:54 PM
They say TK will still have to pit one more time? My video stream is a little choppy today.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 02:56 PM
Yes. They short-pitted him in the hopes to leapfrog Hunter-Reay.

Nice short battle there.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 02:58 PM
Oh no. Servia. :/

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 02:58 PM
Meira out!

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 03:00 PM
Viso helped a little.

There go the alternate strategies.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 03:01 PM
This is certainly going to make things interesting! :)

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 03:04 PM
Big Action! Patrick crashes in the pits. RHR & Dixon beat Briscoe out? Did I see that right?

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 03:06 PM
You saw that right. Good job by the RLR crew.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 03:06 PM
Scary replay on Patrick. Lucky nobody got hurt there.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 03:08 PM
Oh. Dixon did get out in front of RHR.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 03:08 PM
Never mind, Dixon got ahead.

Gosh, slowed computer.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 03:13 PM
Damn! Another yellow. That last one was way longer than it needed to be but man, what a restart!

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 03:15 PM
Looks like Carpenter tried to let LL cars by and they bottlenecked as a result.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 03:20 PM
There's an ambulance out there according to the T&S note.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 03:23 PM
Shootout Time!

Oh Dammit. Duno and A.J. crashed. More friggin' yellow.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 03:26 PM
Oh holy shit! Dixon & Briscoe crash out under yellow. WTF?

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 03:27 PM
I spoke too soon.

What is going on? This is plain amateurish.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 03:29 PM
Dixon's move makes Milka's not look so stupid.

Loved the shots of Ganassi and Bobby Rahal on tv

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 03:31 PM
Hahahaha. "Bloody Stupid". :)

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 03:33 PM
*bangs head against computer*

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 03:33 PM
I guessed they decided to save all the foolishness until the end. At the rate they're going, we're going to have another finish under yellow.

Nice move by RHR for the lead.

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 03:42 PM
Fine start by Hunter-Reay.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 03:48 PM
Ryan Hunter-Reay takes the win! :rocker-001:

Good job by Manning to hold onto 2nd!

LittleAlguy
07-06-2008, 03:50 PM
Good on ya! RHR wins! Manning with a nice 2nd, Rice with 4th for Dreyer & Reinbold. Coyne gets 6th and 7th. Career best for Moraes and IndyCar best for Junqueira.

ÜberDoober
07-06-2008, 03:52 PM
Thanks, LittleAlguy. A pleasure as always.

Need to wash the dog and do chores. See ya next time!
