View Full Version : I'll go first so you don't have to! My life story

Hi! I'm the ÜberDoober, also known around the world as EKron or EK for short - all short for what started out as my online sim racing name, Elisabeth Kron.

In real life, my first name really is Elisabeth but I'm called by my middle name, Diane. Some places, I'm known as E. Diane. (I get around, what can I say?) Confused yet?

I am a couple of years into my 50's, (said while trembling and forcing fingers to hit the 5 key), a grandmother and lifelong fan of motorsports and a lifelong motorcyclist. What time I have for hobbies, I love reading about the whole extraterrestrial/UFO thing along with a good dose of secret black project conjecture thrown in to stimulate the neurons. Not that I'm a believer or a debunker, but as a fan of science fiction from the time I was a kid, I find thinking about it all very entertaining and escapist. Then of course, there's my racing addiction. Get up at 3:00am to watch an event live? Yeah, that's me.:o

I do a bit of sim racing on the PC with rFactor & GTR2 and can also run a server that's good for a dozen or so other people. I worked with iDT, the development team that was working on the offical game of Champ Car and released many community mods. I've done the whole Half-Live 2x series a few times and consider it the ultimate FPS adventure shooter. Portal was kickass. On the Xbox (that just got the red ring 'o death sent back, and returned with a big crack in the face place and a little plastic door broken off that has to be sent back AGAIN), I'm waiting to finish Halo and go back and try once again to get through the last huge battle in BioShock. After being a hardcore PC simmer, I don't much like racing games on the console but have had some fun with MotoGP.

At any rate, I started out with a minibike in 1968 and have never stopped. I raced motocross in High School until I crunched up my tib/fib and did take a few years off to recover and do the whole kid thing (my daughter will be 33 this year). I got my first licensed street motorcycle in 1981. Not that it's a lot for how long I've had, but I have about 4K to go to break the 200,000 mile mark.

In the 1985/6 time frame, I began racing with, and later became a board member with PRRO, the Phoenix Road Racing Organization, that ran the local AMA/CCS club races at the time. Kevin Elliott was also on that board and is now the president of CCS Motorsports (http://www.ccsracing.us/). In 1987/88, I took individual class championships in MWSB (middleweight supebrike) and F1 and was the AMA/CCS Southwest Regional season points runner up. I ran the #2 plate on my 600 Ninja and 750 GSX-R.

After retiring, I returned to the dirt for a few years on a CR250 or two. I spent a few years riding an XS1150-S Yamaha musclebike and purchased a brand new GL1500SE Honda Gold Wing in 1993.

These days, I'm riding a 1985 Kawasaki Ninja. A bike that was bought new, stripped and modified for racing then parked in a garage under a blanket for 15 years. I revived her from moth balls a few years ago, put some lights back on and stuff, and am riding her still, although not as much as I would like to.

So that's my story or at least as much as I can ramble without putting everyone to sleep.

Here are some pics of my scooter. Nifty bits are the Dymag wheels and PM brakes.

Really, I've always stopped when I ran out of numbers! Plenty fast for me! ;)

That is one awesome looking bike. That bike was awesome at the tracks...

Here's a little bit about me. My wife Miriam and I just bought our first house. I have moved a whole bunch in my lifetime and I can not believe that I finally bought a house here in AZ. What was I thinking???

I love motorcycles and motorcycle racing. I raced in WERA on the east coast way back when Interceptor's and GPZ's ruled the tracks. I even raced a tall, skinny kid from Texas by the name of Kevin Schwantz, of Hurst Yamaha. That was his dad's dealership.

I loved being in the military and I traveled around the world with them. Seen, done and enjoyed everything that they did for me. Been married a couple of times and I have 1 son.

My current bike is the 2006 Suzuki GSXR 1000. I bought it new and she currently has 46,000 miles on the odometer.

Really, what were you thinking? I've live here full time since I was in the 7th grade or like '67 or '68? First lived here in 1961 and moved all over hell as a kid. 8th grade was the first year I completed a whole grade at the same school. Just got stuck here.

My daughter (33) has lived all over and I'm kind of jealous.

Cool, seems like all the guys here have some serious history. Randy Renfrow came to my house once or twice and I shook Nicky Hayden's hand in '98 or '99, but that's it for me.

Don't ride much, do ya? :) I just don't think I would have the self control for a 1000?

I went to 10 schools in 12 years and during the 10th grade I went to 3 different schools.

I have met a few racers in my time and I would have to say that if anyone has met Kevin they will be amazed at how nice he is and how he will sit and talk to you like he is no better than you. You can't say that about Eddie Lawson or Freddie Spencer...

That 900 was the bomb in it's day and I am sure that I would have fun trying to have self control with it, too. Any time that you want to ride the GSXR just ask:)

Sweet ride. :)

I thought it would be about time that I introduce myself.

My name is Evan and I'm 21 from New York City. When I went to high school in Concord, Massachusetts, some of them called me "Big Ev". I'm on the tall side (6'2'' at last check) and am no string bean.

As far as my introduction into racing, it's quite weird. Neither my mother nor her parents were into racing before I got into it. As far as I can tell, most of the rest of my family aren't into it and only a couple are casual fans at best. Though I have come to be a big general sports fan with baseball being my "1A", motorsports has been my first love. I don't know what set me off: the sound, the colors, the cool intros like the old Speedworld intro and the Delta Force Indy 500 intro, the names. Whatever it may have been, the bug bit me and no amount of scandal, tragedy, or disunity has been able to make me decide to stop watching it in some form or another.

I used to spend part of the summer in South Carolina with my grandparents and one summer, I got a go-kart and got to ride around the neighborhood a bit. My next go-kart experience, aside from the occasional ride at amusement parks, was when I went to this track in Long Island out in the Hamptons. I remember being so excited about it that I just floored it on cold tires. The instructor there wasn't too thrilled and to prove it, he just got out to the middle of the track to force me to stop. I did, barely. After that, I kept it steady to build heat in the tires before I went full out. I went back there some time later. Fortunately, the weather wasn't quite so hot that day.

I've been to three races:
- the '01 Canadian Grand Prix (summary: 1st race, 1st time out of the country, 1st plane ride, not the 1st time leaving my mother behind [she still hasn't forgiven me for that], 1st time watching "The Powerpuff Girls" in French, 1st time playing F-Zero, 1st time looking at the weather report in degrees Celsius, etc.)
- the '03 Indianapolis 500 (summary: 1st time out of the Eastern Time Zone, 1st time being with my high school buddy out on a trip with mom, 1st time getting a police escort thanks to Grand Prix Tours, 1st time using WebTV [remember that?], etc.)
- the '07 Grand Prix of Cleveland (summary: 1st driver autograph session, 1st time heading out all three days without someone, 1st time getting a taxi ride in a van, 1st time in Ohio, etc.)

I plan on going to the Toronto Grand Prix next year.

As far as other sports, I'm a big New York sports fan and I'm just an sport and internet junkie. I am nearly finished with a B.A. in philosophy (what I'll do with that, who knows?). Well, that's about all I can write right now. :D

Hey, it's about time! :)

Sounds like you've been to some pretty cool races. We don't have much out here in the lonely deserts of Arizona. I've been to about 5 open wheel races and about half a dozen NASCAR races all at Phoenix Int'l Raceway.

I've been to World of Outlaws at Manzanita and years ago, the AMA motorcycle nationals at PIR and Firebird. I've also seen the NHRA at Firebird. They actually ran a Formula 1 street race or two here but I was racing motorcycles at the time and didn't care about anything else. I guess they were terrible events anyway?

Anyway, nice to finally meet you for real, Big Ev! :D You'll have to get out west sometime.

One day I will. :) I wish they still had the IndyCar/USAC weekend that they used to do in early March. That would been great. I haven't been to a Cup race or any NASCAR event. I'd like to do that someday.
