Up again at 5:00am and my record (and goal) for the season of watching every live qualifying and race when it is broadcast is intact! :)

Man, the Hungaroring would make a good kart track. As session one winds down, the likely suspects are in the knockout zone.

Hamilton 1:19:376
Massa
Trulli
Kovalainen

Go Homers
Heidfeld - 1st time he has ever been out in Q1
Barrichello
Nakajima
Fischella
Sutil

Session two brings lots of action after the checkers with some bumpity bumpity bump. The lap record listed above must be wrong because Massa just beat it and they only said he was in "record territory".

The Toyota's like this tight low speed high downforce track. Trulli and Glock look impressive. Raikkonen doesn't seem to have anything.

Massa 1:19:056
Glock
Hamilton
Kovalainen

Knocked out
Vettel
Button
Coulthard
Bourdais
Rosberg

WTF? Speed just did a produced segment that was supposed to be funny about last year when Alonso held up LuHam in the pits. They did some fake radio calls between Hobbs, Matchette and Alonso. The board at Speed is going to rip them a new one for this stunt. Totally unnecessary and not funny.

Flag is out and last hot laps are running! Purple all over!

Starting Order
Hamilton
Kovalainen

I missed it. What were they saying?

Coulthard on the softer tire.

We're off!

Running a little late today and didn't get everything I needed to do done yesterday. It's time for the lights!

Massa dive bombs turn one and takes the lead from the start! Wow!

LittleAlguy

Looks like Massa pinched Hamilton (or Hammy pinched himself) enough to get the edge on exit speed.

An aside: IMS Productions needs to take notes from this race on how to produce a road course event.

Massa is blazing away just slightly.

It'll be interesting to see if Massa can keep it up. All the buzz has been about the McLarens this weekend. I was running for coffee when the squeeze happened and didn't see LuHam in the picture a minute. Now Felipe has a 3 second lead. Kimi still can't get by Alonso.

Good so far. :)

LittleAlguy

Wow, what a L12 by Massa.

Looks as though the gap has stabilized at about 3 seconds between the front two. Glock purple in S3!

Heh, someone is really enjoying it. :p

Raikkonen springing to life.

Hmm, early stops.

Massa pits! Hamilton stays out! Veddy interesting.:)

Tough for Hamilton to get out behind Raikkonen. When Kimi and Alonso pit, he should be back where he was?

LittleAlguy
08-03-2008, 06:30 AM
I'm surprised he pit so soon after Massa. I thought he could have gotten another two laps.

Ha! Fred gets out ahead of Kimi.

LittleAlguy
08-03-2008, 06:36 AM
For a second I was wondering why they didn't mention Raikkonen having "STOP" next to him.

Either Glock had refuelling issues or they really filled it.

LittleAlguy

Kubica was the big loser there.

What's with all the fires. Bourdais was soaked with extinguisher and they sent him back out. Not good.

Fantastic stop by Ferrari for Raikkonen.

ÜberDoober
08-03-2008, 07:18 AM
It looks like Hamilton might salvage a few points with two cars ahead of him still needing to pit? It's been pretty interesting but again, mostly due to strategy and LuHam's tire problem. Kimi is going to come out of this as Mr. Lucky.

LittleAlguy
08-03-2008, 07:26 AM
Raikkonen may yet get the podium. (excepting the old racing cliche about catching up v. passing) Hamilton going after 5th.

Kimi is on fire! The last few laps may have some real excitement? :)

LittleAlguy

This is going to be awesome.

Looks like Massa has enough of a gap that Kovi's times won't be enough to get him.

I feel bad for Felipe but wow! Looks like Heikki is going to get his first win and Glock his first podium. What an interesting turn of events.

Wow, what a race. That just stinks for Massa but congrats to Kovalainen for his first victory and Glock for his first podium.
