Excited to see what the new track looks like, I set the TV to turn on at 5:00am for a first glimpse. It's pretty cool, especially the shots from the air. I kind of dozed off and on.

Some unexpected drivers in unexpected places. Seabass was third in FP1 and Button third in FP2. Weird!

Holy Crap! My TV didn't automatically go off and I almost missed my first qualifying of the season - came in the middle of Q2. Damn!

Knocked out in Q2
Nakajima
Alonso (homeboy does poorly)
Glock
Webber
Piquet

I need to wake up. :ack2:

As usual the last lap of Q3 is one of the most exciting in racing.

With threatening clouds and moisture on the camera lens, the starting order is:

Massa
Hamilton
Kubica
Raikkonen
Kovalainen

I can't wait until tomorrow but ugh, 4:30am to make the pre-race. I'll follow up later with the full grid but for now am heading out to the garage to tinker on the motorcycle and ride around a little before it gets hot. They're predicting another 110º day and at 6:30 with the sun already up, it's well on its way. :ack2:

Starting grid:

How about both STRs making it in Q3 and Vettel's pace on low fuel.

Wow, at the end of the GP2 feature race.

Wow, at the end of the GP2 feature race.

Didn't see it-too damn early! Had to get up at 4:30am just to watch the pre-race, which I did from bed but now I'm up with some toast and coffee. What was the wow?

Pantano dominated the race and with just a couple of corners to go on the last lap, he somehow ran out of fuel. Bruno Senna and another car ran out of fuel on the last lap as well.

Great start by Kovi and Massa.

Alonso slow.

ÜberDoober
08-24-2008, 06:05 AM
They made it through turn 2! I saw some bumping. Oh no for Alonso. :ack2:

Massa was purple in all three sectors that last lap.

ÜberDoober
08-24-2008, 06:14 AM
Massa is simply flying. Kubica looking good too. Raikkonen is 9.4 seconds back already. :ack2:

LittleAlguy
08-24-2008, 06:16 AM
Wow, DC. Should have known better.

LittleAlguy
08-24-2008, 06:19 AM
Kubica lost a bunch of time that last lap. Wonder why?

ÜberDoober
08-24-2008, 06:19 AM
Wow, DC. Should have known better.

Yeah, that was pretty dumb. They're saying Massa may be a few laps shorter on fuel than Hamilton and that Kimi may be heavy. Of course, they're just guessing. Kovalainen needs to keep Raikkonen behind him.

Vettel is doing well. Kubica has some issues, maybe?

LittleAlguy
08-24-2008, 06:27 AM
The 2nd group looks to have closed the gap in pace to the top two though they are still losing time. Half a second the last two laps instead of a second.

ÜberDoober
08-24-2008, 06:29 AM
Massa in. Sweet! He comes out behind Kovalainen and just ahead of Kimi.

LittleAlguy
08-24-2008, 06:29 AM
Lap 14: Massa

right ahead of Kimi. That can't be pleasant.

Lap 16: Hamilton

Even less pleasant.

ÜberDoober

Hamilton's stop didn't do him any favors. Out behind Raikkonen. :(

LittleAlguy
08-24-2008, 06:39 AM
Right ahead of Heidfeld for Kovalainen.

LittleAlguy
08-24-2008, 06:45 AM
Should be interesting to see if Hamilton can do anything with Felipe once they switch to the softer tires.

Hey, I know that guy. :p

ÜberDoober

Varsha: "How you doin" seems to be his line for the weekend? :)

LittleAlguy
08-24-2008, 06:53 AM
Strange how the Olympics have messed up my sleep cycle, yet I still wasn't able to watch practice or qualifying. :(

ESPN seriously needs to watch this to see how to put on a race.

LittleAlguy
08-24-2008, 07:00 AM
Jeez, Piquet still hasn't pitted.

Haha, as soon as I say that...

LittleAlguy
08-24-2008, 07:13 AM
Heh, Matchett is getting all giddy about that Singapore night race.

I look forward to that.

ÜberDoober
08-24-2008, 07:15 AM
I was really looking forward to this one too but it's turning out to be quite a snoozer.

ÜberDoober

Raikkonen farked in the pits. At least there was no fire.

LittleAlguy
08-24-2008, 07:17 AM
Holy crud. I hope he's ok.

Yeah, I was expecting more from this race.

LittleAlguy
08-24-2008, 07:20 AM
Wowzer, uberkablammo.

ÜberDoober

LittleAlguy

Congrats, Massa. Hopefully, there's nothing to come from that stewards' investigation.

Well, it's over. I'm hardly able to contain my excitement. :o

At least Infineon should have some action?

In general, I think so (though probably not by much). Given the ESPN coverage? Highly doubtful.

At least they're showing the ALMS race from Mosport. That's been a pretty good show from what I recall.

For a second, I thought they were giving Massa a car door. Some trophy.
