At Suzuki's request for more time to prepare for their appeal of Mladin's DQ, we won't know if Spies takes the title this weekend or not. That blows. Agree? Disagree? Here is your spot to let the world know.
I still want to know why Spies crank wasn't examined!

Regardless of what the talking heads have said about this not being politically motivated retaliation for Mladin's mouthings, I call bullshit on that.
I will be very interested in this weekends event just to see if Mat has some additional comments or if he has been coached to say something like "no comment until after our appeal is heard"?
I also think not having this issue sorted before this weekend's racing is crap too.
I will note that VIR was Suzuki's Big Kahuna Challenge and this weekend is Suzuki Superbike Showdown. Think these title sponsored events will be around next year? Doubt it.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the AMA/DMG guys have realized that there are crankshafts used in the 1000cc Suzukis from two different manufacturers, Just cuz they look different doesn't make them illegal.

Well isn't that interesting!
I was kind of hoping something else would go on here. I was thinking maybe someone might protest Spies and T. Hayden?
So they made Mladin and Hayden's mechanics remove the engines from the frames but not Spies? What the hell is going on?
They will either exonerate Mladin or nail him and Tommy Hayden to the cross? I've come to the conclusion that the "D" in DMG stands for DRAMA. Now all we need is a few riders wrastlin' in the pits and we'll have ourselves a good ol' down home show.

That's weird, I thought the "D" stood for Dumbshit.

I just read the article on Superbike Planet concerning the Suzuki impound.

You think DMG/AMA can figure out a way to disqualify the Suzukis retro actively so that Hacking wins the championship. I mean Kawasaki has been half hearted in their comments about next year's series and Yamaha is too far back. :)

WTF?
From the AMA:
MAT MLADIN & TOMMY HAYDEN GROUP A QUALIFYING TIMES DISALLOWED
DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - All of the qualifying lap times for #6 Mat Mladin and #22 Tommy Hayden were disallowed from the Friday Group A Superbike qualifying session at Road Atlanta for use of non-homologated crankshafts.
Both riders will have the opportunity to participate and post lap times during the Saturday morning qualifying session.
I thought the penalty was disqualification from the event? (NASCAR) Arbitrary enforcement of the rules already?
THIS IS THE DMG PUNISHING SUZUKI FLAT OUT, NO QUESTION. They are being complete and total douchwipes. Is the DMG somehow playing favorites for Spies and what would the benefit be? How else can he remain unscathed in this debacle?
Talk about burning a bridge. Suzuki and the DMG will never work things out after this. It's either the start of war or a guarantee that Suzuki will not participate in next season's DMG disco.
Ned, maybe you were right about Hacking? :)
Right now, I'm so pissed I vote that Suzuki withdraw Hayden and Mladin from any further participation in this event.

Note that it doesn't say the cranks are illegal parts or that they have been modified in only way. It just says they are non-homolgated.
So if crank from factory A and crank from factory B have the same part number but slight manufacturing differences, are they splitting hairs that crank A is the only one homolgated? I don't get it.
I demand that the top three bikes in every class go through this exact same scrutiny down to the crank. Hell, make it the top five. Hell, cancel the damned rest of the season.

The excitement continues.
With what happened yesterday with Mladin and Hayden, it is reported THAT SPIES CRANK WAS NOT INSPECTED.

This is riduculous.

Just finished watching the race 1 broadcast..
Lots of coverage of the whole Suzuki crankshaft debacle at the start of the show with some fairly balanced reporting. It's still all crap though.
I must say that Spies run from 12th was amazing but have to say his penalty at the start was crap because they should have held the lights. Not really a Spies fan but that was pretty impressive.
Mladin just about taken out by lappers with a few to go and I'm sure he wasn't too happy about it.

I'm sure everybody has read Mladin's post race comments about never being stopped by Edmondson. I could find no mention of this on rrworld, cycle news or amaproracing.com
http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2008/Aug/080830h7.htm
Mat's interview said all the things the Soup story did but Mat didn't mention Edmondson. I'm thinking maybe Dean added that part in? :)

Mat's comment made it to Cycle News:

I thought I read the comment on RRW, but when I went back to check, it seemed as though the report had been modified and the comment was no longer there. I could be wrong.
