Entry List:

With only one race to go after Detroit, will Helio stand a chance to catch Dixon in the points? Anything could happen so don't miss the next to the last race of the year for Indycars.

Something tells me that there won't be just two laps of yellow like there were last week. I think it will go down to Chicago.

Bernoldi out. Tagliani in! :):):) Go Tags!
Even thought it's an early 6:30 here, MotoGP qualifying just ended up and I'm watching group 1 practice from Belle Isle.
Castroneves 1:12:6237
Wheldon
Servia
Kanaan
Patrick
Briscoe
Andretti
Group 2 is rolling out and they're letting Tagliani run both sessions.

Morning practice wraps up with Dixon on top. He has brushed the wall about 4 times since yesterday. :ack2:

Wheldon with some contact. That was pretty heavy.
I do hope they change the track to how it was later in the CART days where there with an actual passing zone.
Wow, those Renskes were pretty, weren't they?
ÜberDoober
08-30-2008, 09:50 AM
The track looks very professional and nicely done.
Briscoe sneaks to the top of the charts.
ÜberDoober
08-30-2008, 09:51 AM
Dang, Tags parks it in a bad spot.
ÜberDoober
08-30-2008, 09:53 AM
Marty Roth officially out of competition.
Danica makes top 6.
LittleAlguy
08-30-2008, 09:54 AM
Yeah, the facility itself does look better than when they last raced there in '01 (before the IRL got there).
Tags around. Manning just squeezes through.
Briscoe, Castroneves, Kanaan, Servia, Wheldon, Patrick through to Q2.
If there's something they should do next year for the qualification is that they should show split times during qualifying runs to add to the excitement.
LittleAlguy
08-30-2008, 09:58 AM
I'd like to see Dario back. Just not at Wheldon's expense, though.
Game over for Scheckter in this session.
ÜberDoober
08-30-2008, 10:10 AM
Power should have parked it in a runoff area. Junky stuffs it and FCY. Time will prolly run out?
LittleAlguy
08-30-2008, 10:11 AM
Junqueira with heavy damage. Power with some damage.
ÜberDoober
08-30-2008, 10:19 AM
Wilson bumps Meira! I am surprised they had time to go back out.
LittleAlguy
08-30-2008, 10:20 AM
Great lap, Wilson. :)
LittleAlguy
08-30-2008, 10:34 AM
That Helio sure knows how to put down a quick lap. Even before he joined Penske, he had his share of quick laps with Hogan in the less than quick Lola-Mercedes package.
ÜberDoober
08-30-2008, 10:40 AM
Briscoe bumps RHR for top six. Good run by Rahal.
LittleAlguy
08-30-2008, 10:42 AM
I believe this is Rahal's first Fast 6.
Too bad for Will.
LittleAlguy
08-30-2008, 10:45 AM
Castroneves, Dixon, Wilson, Servia, Rahal, Briscoe into the Fast 6.
LittleAlguy
08-30-2008, 11:02 AM
Incredible laps by Dixon.
ÜberDoober
08-30-2008, 11:03 AM
Dixon and Castroneves on the front row. What could be more exciting!

Here is a picture from indycar.com this morning.
Why is that poor child wearing a lampshade hat? :)

Looks as though someone is trying to be ingenious in this economy.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 01:23 PM
Who is that in the radio booth in place of Davey?
edit: sounds familiar. Can't put my finger on who the voice belongs to.

Who is that in the radio booth in place of Davey?
I don't know? I have it on low and splitting my attention with the Grand-Am race. I think they said something about it yesterday but I forgotted.
ÜberDoober

S H O W T I M E !!!
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 01:36 PM
Sweet. :D
I just think all Dixon has to do is finish ahead if they both finish up front. The max one can gain if both start is 43 (53 for win and most laps led, 10 for finishing last). If they are both in the back and Helio leads the most, then it is a 42 point lead.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 01:43 PM
That's a ragged start.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 01:44 PM
FCY on the first lap. I really hate these strung out starts.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 01:46 PM
Junky getting the penalty for spinning Milka.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 01:47 PM
Ahh, that's Arie, Jr.
Yeah, they really need to be tighter with the starts. Not too tight to create a mess but better than that. No wonder they asked about standing starts on indycar.com.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 01:49 PM
Scheckter, the two Conquest cars, and Duno in pit. Junky in the back for avoidable contact.
Not again. :(
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 01:54 PM
Duno gets a black flag for no communication with the pits.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 01:57 PM
Wow, those two are putting on a clinic.
edit: ah, that explains it partially.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 02:01 PM
Dixon's pullling a couple of car lengths ahead. Looks like Wheldon just stopped for fuel only?
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 02:02 PM
Rice just came in as well on lap 12.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 02:04 PM
Nice pass, Power.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 02:08 PM
Wheldon and Camara tangle. It sounds like Patrick and Meira are duelling but they aren't showing it.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 02:10 PM
Not so much from Wheldon.
I think they want us to just imagine what it looks like, lol.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 02:12 PM
Dixon pits and Castroneves stays out. And so the strategy really begins. :)
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 02:17 PM
Way to cut the video on Dixon's pass.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 02:20 PM
Haha, I know. Yeah, people need to see full body shots of the two drivers than actual racing and passing.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 02:25 PM
I hear ya, RHR. I thought that returning the fuel mixtures would work but they've just made them even more pit strategy reliant.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 02:30 PM
Danica and Meira and Viso all off. :ack2:
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 02:32 PM
That definitely looked like a block by DP. Meira did get a bit optimistic by going threewide.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 02:33 PM
They just said Tagliani in the pits with the engine cover off.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 02:35 PM
Patrick gets a stop and go for coming in when the pits were closed. She had a flat so what was she supposed to do?
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 02:37 PM
Viso out with damage.
Scheckter back out to get some testing.
Big break for Castroneves on the yellows.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 02:45 PM
Not sure why she's upset with Viso. It looked like he just made an opportunistic pass on her while she was on cold tires. The defense she played helped lead to that incident with Meira.
That was definitely a block by Manning.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 02:50 PM
Junqueira up to 10th by Andretti. Not sure what has been up with Marco this weekend.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 02:57 PM
Black flag for Duno for failure to maintain pace.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 03:00 PM
Too bad for Power & RHR. Dixon pits.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 03:00 PM
A bit ambitious from Power. Tried backing out from the pass but too late.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 03:11 PM
So if Duno got called to the pits for no radio, why not Marco?
Things are getting pretty racy! :)
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 03:14 PM
It's shaping up just like last year's battle for 2nd.
Here's a yellow. Big break for Dixon.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 03:15 PM
Wheldon and Moraes both off. FCY. It's turning into a nailbiter! :ack2:
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 03:23 PM
Did the TV guys just insinuate that Wheldon's off was intentional to bring out the yellow so Dixon could save fuel? I just caught a bit of it.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 03:25 PM
OMG!
Wilson!
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 03:27 PM
Oh wow, another break for Dixon.
They seemed to insinuate that. I doubt it since he's been struggling all day.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 03:30 PM
Even if Helio wins, I still don't think he'll be too ecstatic.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 03:33 PM
Penske vs. Newman-Haas-Lanigan
Just like old times, lol.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 03:35 PM
Damned timed race.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 03:37 PM
Grr, that stinks. :(
Wow, they are really getting tight with the officiating (sans the start).
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 03:37 PM
Black flag for Marco. I'll be surprised if Helio gets ahead Wilson.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 03:44 PM
Well, this will be one for the conspiracy theorists.
Congrats to Wilson. I am glad to see him win. Not the best for Castroneves but at least Dixon didn't clinch.
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 03:47 PM
Congrats to Wilson. Not sure if that is the way I would have imagined it.
That one is for Paul.
Good for Helio to control himself.
ÜberDoober
08-31-2008, 03:49 PM
A pleasure as always. Thanks for hanging.
I need to bail so see you for the big finale! :)
LittleAlguy
08-31-2008, 03:56 PM
Alright, see ya next week. Can't wait. :D
