The penultimate round of the 2008 HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship kicked off at a cloudy but dry Magny-Cours circuit with the traditional pre-race press conference involving six top Superbike riders - Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox), Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB), Max Neukirchner (Alstare Suzuki), Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda), Règis Laconi (Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse) and Max Biaggi (Sterilgarda Go Eleven Ducati).

With just one round remaining, only the first three of these riders are still in with a mathematical chance of winning the title, but with a lead of 79 points and 100 up for grabs, Bayliss looks odds-on favourite for the title this weekend. On the stage together with the Superbike riders were also the returning Fabien Foret (Yamaha World Supersport), Matthieu Lagrive (Intermoto Czech Honda), Maxime Berger (Hannspress IDS Ten Kate Honda) and Loris Baz (YZF Yamaha Junior Team)..
