AMA DMG SUZUKI SUPERBIKE DOUBLE HEADER
Road America, Elkhart Lake, WI
Well, it's probably a safe bet that we may not see any factory sponsored events in 2010 or at least that's the latest rumor? I would not be surprised if we don't even see this series next year? I know you guys are sophisticated fans and have heard all the buzz but it ain't looking good, folks.
As a longtime AMA member (just got my 20 year pin but it's really much longer because I first joined the AMA in 1970 but took a break), it behooves me to call this AMA racing. I just don't like the association and it just doesn't mean the same thing to me as it once did so I'll just call it DMG road racing and take it for what it is.
So the word is out that the Saturday night, two week late AMA Pro Primetime show is being ditched for same day coverage. This is a step in the right direction but from the schedule, it seems most of the "same day" coverage is in the middle of the farking night.
Broadcast schedule for final five AMA Pro Road Racing events on SPEED:
* Laguna Seca (Sunday, July 5, midnight ET, 2 hours SDD)
* Mid-Ohio (Sunday, July 19, 11 a.m. ET, 2 hours NDD)
* Mid-Ohio (Sunday, July 19, midnight ET, 2 hours SDD)
* Topeka (Saturday, Aug. 1, 10:30 p.m. ET, 2 hours SDD)
* Topeka (Sunday, Aug. 2, midnight ET, 2 hours SDD)
* Virginia (Saturday, Aug. 15, 8 p.m. ET, 2 hours SDD)
* Virginia (Sunday, Aug. 16, midnight ET, 2 hours SDD)
* New Jersey (Saturday, Sept. 5, 7:30 p.m. ET. 2 hours SDD)
* New Jersey (Sunday, Sept. 6, midnight ET, 2 hours SDD)
The final AMA Pro Prime Time studio show will air June 20 at 10 p.m. ET with coverage from Road America. Great, so all we have is Superbikeplanet, Roadracingworld, Cyclenews, etc. for information and on June 20 who will remember or care. Not me.
Like this is really going to make it better? Not one single race live all year. As a loyal viewer of SPEEDtv's Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain, he does get in a few comments about this situation just about every week. Previously and on several occasions, he explained the situation and reasoning behind the AMA Pro Primetime show was because they coudn't get enough advertisers to pony up the costs for a live or same day broadcast.
Now that they have realized that nobody is watching and the fans don't care to see racing that is two weeks old, in what I feel is a last ditch effort, they're going back so "same day coverage". On last week's Wind Tunnel, at the end of Despain delivering this news, he wagged his finger at the viewers and said "so you better start watching." I took this to mean that if they couldn't get ratings or advertisers, that we would not see US road racing on SPEED in the future. So if no money was the reason behind the AMA Primetime show, where suddenly did they get the funding? Makes you wonder, eh?
Edmondson blames the media. I blame the product.
ps
The crapass graphic was the best I could find. Trust me, if I ran a racing series, I would at least have a decent website to promote it. Also, I used the [SPOILER] prefix but I really wanted to use the [HUMOR] one. :winky:
