The AMA Superbike Championship springs back into action for the fourth stop of the 2008 season on May 16-18 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.

Picturesque Setting
Located just 30 minutes north of San Francisco in the heart of California's wine country, the undulating Infineon Raceway circuit is one of the most scenic on the tour. The track has undergone a host of safety upgrades in recent years, which have elevated its status to that of a rider and fan favorite.
2008 is the 40th season of racing at Infineon Raceway, which also plays host to NASCAR, IndyCar, and NHRA events.

Who's Who Winners List
The AMA Superbike Championship first raced at Infineon Raceway in 1977 and the track has seen a number of the sport's icons stand on top of the Superbike podium over the years, including former world champions Freddie Spencer, Wayne Rainey, Fred Merkel, Kevin Schwantz, Doug Polen, Colin Edwards, and Nicky Hayden.
This is the fourth stop on the 20-race series for 2008. It will be a doubleheader weekend, featuring 28-lap main events in the Superbike division on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18. The weekend will also feature racing in Pro Honda Oils Supersport, Superstock and Formula Xtreme.

CIRCUIT/LENGTH:
12-turn, 2.22-mile road course. Superbike main events, 28 laps. All other main events, 17 laps.

I'm not even going to bother posting a poll for this one. It's either going to be Mat or Ben! I'm more interested in who is 3rd! Tommy Hayden is out for this round if you haven't already heard and Rog is so busted up, he'll be lucky to get back on a bike by Laguna. (thread here (http://www.dooberville.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1241#post1241))

Now that it has had more time to sink in, I am also very interested in the latest opinions from the riders and crews about their future.

It is looking pretty Ben-like there, isn't it? Especially with Mladin falling off twice yesterday.

Did you hear about how pissy the "new AMA Tech Regime" is being? The more I read the more I fear things are going to hell right before my eyes. They're pretty adamant about not posting their stuff somewhere else, so I won't but here's a link to the report at rrworld. http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=32413

Spies still in his own zone but the Yammie's looking good! Hacking grids the Kawi ahead of both of the Honda's (said missing Rog).

I think Yam's will be there tomorrow, but I'm a Kawi fan myself. My first bike was a KZ750 and I loved that thing...

I ride a Kawi now and raced a 600 so they're a sentimental favorite.

Not to throw the DMG discussion into this thread, but Mladin is really not holding back on his opinion. From an interview at Soup (http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2008/May/080517n.htm)

MLADIN: I won't be riding Daytona Superbike next year.

AMA Formula Xtreme Championship

May 17, 2008
Provisional Race Results:

1. Jake Zemke (Hon CBR600RR), Dunlop, 17 laps
2. Josh Hayes (Hon CBR600RR), Dunlop, -0.066-second
3. Steve Rapp (Kaw ZX-6R), Pirelli, -9.071 seconds
4. Cory West (Suz GSX-R600), Pirelli, -23.093 seconds
5. Larry Pegram (Duc 848), Pirelli, -24.820 seconds
6. Danny Eslick (Suz GSX-R600), Dunlop, -41.164 seconds
7. Nicky Moore (Kaw ZX-6R), Pirelli, -46.808 seconds
8. Garrett Carter (Suz GSX-R600), Dunlop, -51.058 seconds
9. Fernando Amantini (Kaw ZX-6R), Dunlop, -70.594 seconds
10. Brian Parriott (BMW HP2 Sport), Pirelli, -74.864 seconds

So is this basically the class that's going to morph into Daytona Superbikes? Although this close finish was probably a barnburner, the Supersport race will still be better.
