I voted for Tony Kanaan. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g223/EKron/tonyKanaan.jpg

Can't really back that up with anything solid other than I like him. Dan Wheldon may be a great Indycar driver but I think he's a pip.

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g223/EKron/ganassipig.jpg Ganassi's team may have the front row but they're not my personal favorites to win (in anything unless JPM is driving) :)

For publicity's sake, I'd of course pick the obvious (Danica) but Rahal, Andretti and even Helio for the dancing thing would get a lot of press, which is a good thing.

I'm just hoping it will be a good race and run for the finish without a lot of wrecks. For some reason, I think something will happen early that may take out a few of the contenders. There are drivers that I suspect may get in trouble but lets hope they don't take anybody else out.

So Carb day, eh? Go one bigger on the main jet and swap out the emulsion tubes, we're goin' racin', boys (and girls). And on that "girls" thing...I think it is cool that three women are in this year's show. I'd love to see Sarah Fisher in a top car and in contention. She's a racer not a showgirl! :ack2:

I forgot to add that MotoGP Champion Nicky Hayden will be making a lap to promote the upcoming Red Bull Indianapolis GP.

Hayden Plans To Blow Out Cobwebs at Indy 500
Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Torrance, Calif. Repsol Honda's Nicky Hayden will ride the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval on Sunday, May 25 just before the start of the 92nd Indianapolis 500 race.

The MotoGP champion's demonstration lap follows his inaugural laps of the newly constructed road course. Back in April, he rode a 1909 Indian and a 2008 Honda CBR1000RR to promote the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix scheduled for September 14. This time Indy racing fans will see the Repsol Honda rider aboard an HRC RC212V used in actual competition in the 2008 MotoGP World Championship.

I voted for Dixon because he's been fast on every oval this year, been fast this month on both short and long runs and is the type who a very good blend of aggression and cool-headedness. The Ganassi crew seems to have improved on pitstops as well.

I hope for a clean race but I have a feeling that there will be plenty of incidents. I just hope drivers are reminded to not let leaders go by underneath them in the turns as that led to quite a few accidents last year. I also hope for an exciting race up front.

Yeah, Scott Dixon looks to have all the pieces in place for a win.

Sarah Fisher gets a last minute sponsor deal! How cool is that?

Just in Time

Sarah Fisher Racing announced that text4cars.com would serve as the primary sponsor of the No. 67 Honda-powered Dallara for the 92nd Indianapolis 500.

"I can't express how emotional I feel at this point and time," said Fisher, who will start 22nd in her seventh 500-Mile Race. "I realize this is gift with only 72 hours left before the race. My only wish is that my fan base continues to be supportive with this new partnership and its service to providing car buying solutions for consumers." Source: Indycar.com (http://www.indycar.com/news/?story_id=11477)

It says the deal is just for the 500 but let's hope she gets some exposure to pick up a sponsor for the season. Ain't gonna happen, but I'd love to see her kick The Princesses' skinny ass!

Rain, what's new?

Was it me or did the producers want to invite some controversy in reference to Viso's response to what other drivers had to say about his Kansas run? I certainly believe that Viso gained a few fans with what he said.

I do wish they could just show some "Legends of the Brickyard" during the mini-marathon the Ocho is holding tomorrow. Just three 500's? You're kidding me.

I can't believe I watched a friggin' parade on ESPN! :ack2:

I'm ready! Up at 4:30 to watch F1 and I'll be rarin' to go when the first pre-race comes on at 8:00. Woman I used to live with was from Albuquerque and family friend of the Unsers. She grew up watching the Indy 500 and it became our household tradition to break out the beer for the race, even if it was 9:00 am!

I don't do that anymore but when Gomer Pyle sings, it makes my mouth water! :)

LittleAlguy

Viso also got some sponsorship for the 500 and the rest of the season. It's from Savoy Chocolate. (http://www.indycar.com/news/?story_id=11517) I'd love to have a taste of Venezuela. :p

Hmm, Townsend Bell wants some fresh milk if he wins.

Hmm, Townsend Bell wants some fresh milk if he wins.

Milkin' the heffer! :)

I was also still watching SPEED and the AMG Test Drive. Townsend Bell and Paul Tracy were lapping at local Firebird Raceway with Tommy Kendall and it was really fun. For non racing programming, I really like that Test Drive show with TK.

Need to run up to the grocery store. Back in 20 min.

Unification drivers? In theory, aren't they ALL unification drivers?

Ironic that they're talking about a storm at Indy and the skies are about as clear as you can get them.

Yesterday in F1 qualifying, Varsha told the story of how Grand-Am's Wayne Taylor's transportor caught on fire and they lost their cars, tools, computers and everything. Apparantly, Ganassi and the other teams have all pitched in to keep Taylor on that track so I'm going to put a +1 in the Chipster column as it said they came up with the most.

(I still don't the Target boys to win, though!) :)

That is pretty awesome. That's the best thing about racing in how there's quite a bit of camaraderie amongst the teams and drivers.

As far as Indy intros, meh. I liked the old Delta Force intros with Paul Page narrating. Among the newer intros, I liked the one from 2006 with Kiefer Sutherland narrating. They didn't go overboard with the graphics but what they did do was pretty smooth.

Nice Father/son piece on Rahal and Andretti but I would liked to have heard from Mario too (he's one of my all time heroes)

I look forward to the day if and when Graham and Marco battle for the win of a race let alone Indy.

Was it me or did Emmo get booed?

Was it me or did Emmo get booed?

I didn't catch that. He's going to be Dave's guest on WindTunnel tonight.

I was distracted during that piece on the risks and getting hurt but did they even mention Greg Moore?

LittleAlguy
05-25-2008, 10:55 AM
I don't believe they did.

I was a bit surprised they talked about Zanardi and they interviewed him as well. Another bit of irony considering that he never got to race at Indy either for the 500 or for the Grand Prix.

The anthem.

LittleAlguy
05-25-2008, 11:25 AM
Good news, he got some airtime (albeit smushed) for his sponsor. Bad news, he'll have to come in which he does now.

That means only Wilson, Rice, and Fisher are still to pit.

Darn, looks like Junqueira has more problems than needing a new mirror.

Sarah spins it.

ÜberDoober
05-25-2008, 11:26 AM
Tougher luck for Sarah.

Lot of guys stayed out. I wonder how that's going to work for them?

LittleAlguy
05-25-2008, 11:31 AM
Nice move by Justin Wilson to keep the Target guys behind him.

Let's see if Rahal can pull something out with the alternate strategy.

LittleAlguy
05-25-2008, 11:34 AM
Good pass by Wilson.

ÜberDoober
05-25-2008, 11:44 AM

That screws Justin and Rice for just making green flag stops.

LittleAlguy

Rahal is out of the race. :( Looks as though Lloyd slowed up earlier than he should have and Rahal got caught out.

They're sending him back out. Hope that fire retardant doesn't sting. Rice and Wilson did get back on the lead lap so they may be okay.

LittleAlguy
05-25-2008, 12:06 PM
Well, good on him to get back out there.

Good run for Manning in 6th.

Briscoe was the real loser on that sequence. He's a lap down.

LittleAlguy

Dixon is a bit leaner on fuel than Wheldon. We shall see if that foreshadows something in the end.

Mutoh with a good run.

ÜberDoober
05-25-2008, 12:36 PM
Caution again. :) Camara seems okay but he tore his car up pretty good.

Dang! A double whammy. Shame it takes so long to clean up the track and go back to green.

LittleAlguy

How about showing the leaders a little more often and if you are going to show the back, show some more battles.

Kanaan to the lead!

Looks like Wheldon may be losing the handle a little bit.

LittleAlguy

I don't believe it. Fortunately they are both OK. Looks as though Kanaan was surprised that Marco made the move on him and then he couldn't save it.

LittleAlguy
05-25-2008, 01:57 PM
Briscoe trying to save fuel. Good recovery for them.

Lloyd is out of the race. Fortunately that wasn't a Kevin Cogan moment. That could have been bad if Viso's parked car were a few pits up.

No one can make it all the way on fuel here.

ÜberDoober
05-25-2008, 02:01 PM
That could have been bad.

Somebody give the Princess a wing adjust for cryin' out loud so she'll shut up! I did like her slooow thing though.

I'm thinking if there's any trim adjustments to make, this is gonna be it and they'll be cranking off the downforce.

I'm thinking we're gonna have a race on our hands! Schecter and Meira are looking like the spoilers. Oh, they just said two more stops.
