..Kinda resembles Burt Munro's "Offerings to the God of Speed"..

Another Dave's Kart and Cycle story.. At 19, I managed to trade a pretty worn-out 125 WR Husky for a couple year old 400 Maico. I had heard all about "Maico-Breako" over the years, but this baby was pristine! The night before my first ride on it I dropped in a nice, new Champion sparkplug..

Next day. I drive the bike out to my favorite desert ridin' spot, gear up, hop on the beast and within ten minutes of riding start to hear somethind bad,, BAD..

Come to find, the brand new plug fractured it's center electrode and all of it did a craters-of-the-Moon job on the piston and inside the head.

Being poor, I went to Dave's who was the local Maico dealer at the time, and after shelling out the rent, gas, electric and beer money for the month for a new head. I didn't have enough for a new piston ..Asked Jack Richards if he had an old one I could have..

I never heard the end of that! I got ribbed for years about my ah, ..er.. "frugal" ways..

But the Maico ran pretty good with the old slug in there.

Jack Richards? Forgot all about him. He was kind of creepy and my mom didn't like him much. I thought he was weird and squirley and didn't go there much. Did you ever hang out much at Salems, that was a neat shop with some cool Nortons and Brian Ross even gave me some riding lessons. Remember little bitty Camelback Honda on 7th St. That building is still there! Remember when you said Apache Honda you had to specify East or West? :)

Anyway, I digest...

These pistons don't have much to 'em at all. They seem naked without their skirts! Not worth much either except to the guy behind the parts counter. Heck, I think there's 23 or 24 little ones and 15 or 16 big ones and I think he got another for his collection today.

You should see the pile of cranks, rods and busted engine cases under the bench! Wow :ack2:

Yeah, I have a Wall of Shame at my place that recently got a 500.00 carbon Fiber Ivoprop propeller nailed up there when the damn thing sucked a parachute into it at 4k rpm.. (I fly Powered Parachutes)

Jack Richards was a ass. So was John Mahoney if you remember him, but his brother was a stand-up guy.

I bought a Trackmaster framed Kaw 350 Bighorn half-mile bike from Salem's. Good People there.

i just through away a bunch of pistons and valves off that old bench out back-----as i was pitching i counted over 100 valves , and 15 pistons ,---and many of the customers take their old parts with them
